Singapore’s District 6 consists of High Street, part of the Beach Road, City Hall and Clarke Quay areas. Most of the properties are commercial in nature with a smattering of residences such as the apartment-homes at High Street Centre and the upcoming Beach Road condominium at City Gate.
Located within the Central Region and close to the Central Business District (CBD), District 6 is served by multiple MRT lines, namely the North-South line, East-West line, Downtown line, and North-East line, through Lavender MRT, Bugis MRT, City Hall MRT, and Clarke Quay MRT. As such, it’s well-served by Singapore’s public transport network, which makes it an attractive area for working professionals.
Residential land is extremely scarce in an area so close to the CBD and Downtown Core, so residential property in District 6 such as High Street Centre (often colloquially called High Street Apartment), and Beach Road condominiums (such as the Concourse Skyline and City Gate) should continue to enjoy strong demand from an upmarket crowd who wants to live, work and play within the city.
The district also hosts hotels such as the Grand Park City Hall to cater for tourists visiting Singapore’s Civic District in the vicinity. Attractions for both locals and tourists alike include the City Hall, the Old Supreme Court, the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, the Asian Civilisations Museum and Parliament House.
Shopping options are abundant within the district, with malls such as Raffles City, Bugis Junction and Clarke Quay Central conveniently linked directly to MRT stations, and perfect for District 6 residents. The Beach Road Army Market, located above the Golden Mile Food Centre, offers a quirkier shopping experience for camping and surplus army supplies.
Residents with homes in District 6 will be please with the plentiful food and beverage outlets in the area, with many of the best restaurants and bars concentrated at Clarke Quay and various malls in the District 6 area. Singapore’s Clarke Quay comes alive in the evening as diners frequent bars and restaurants located along the Singapore River, with wonderful views to match.
