Seventy Saint Patrick’s high score among the judges of the inaugural EdgeProp Singapore Excellence Awards 2017 garnered it the Development Excellence Award at the gala dinner on the evening of Oct 23.

The judges had spent hours poring through the submissions and looking at the details of each project submitted.

“They were all very impressive,” says Yu Shi Ming, associate professor of the Department of Real Estate at National University of Singapore, who was part of the five-member judging panel. “I must say I’m very happy that the overall quality and design of projects have [improved] substantially over the past 10 to 20 years. Today, we have really excellent developments.”

But it is the 186-unit development by UOL Group, in the Katong district, that tops them all.

“UOL is honoured to receive the Development Excellence Award for Seventy Saint Patrick’s,” says Joyce Sng, UOL deputy general manager of product development.

“It’s [a] unique development, taking an organic approach to site planning and a design that weaves facilities and gardens together to create a sense of tranquillity.”

Designed by Consortium 168 Architects, the nine low-rise residential blocks of five storeys each are oriented so that every block faces a different aspect of the surrounding amenities.

Also, all units enjoy natural light and unobstructed views of the various themed landscaped areas, whether a garden or pool, says Koon Wai Leong, director at Consortium 168.

Situated on a 139,398 sq ft freehold site, the blocks have a “boomerang” configuration to provide dual views and cross-ventilation in all units.

While the focal point of the project is the main swimming pool, there are other blocks with more intimate settings, with their own landscaped facilities, such as a garden, swimming pool or reflective pool.

The project has a good mix of unit types, from two-bedrooms starting from 700 sq ft to four-bedroom units of 1,442 sq ft. There are also a mix of two- to four-bedroom penthouses from 1,033 to 1,647 sq ft.

Even though the residential property market was lacklustre in 2014, Seventy Saint Patrick’s enjoyed relatively brisk sales. The project was fully sold nine months ahead of its completion in September 2016.
