Members of the Chinese Swimming Club (CSC) have approved a $9 million project to upgrade its existing Recreation Complex, which was presented by the club’s Management Committee at its Annual General Meeting on April 28.

According to a press release from the CSC on May 7, work on the Recreation Complex is targeted to start in 1H2025 and expected to be completed by 2H2026. The Recreation Complex is one of three buildings within the CSC.

The upgrading will see the Recreation Complex become a “lifestyle-centric hub” featuring an air-conditioned lobby and a contemporary restaurant serving Western fusion food, as well as family karaoke rooms. The poolside area will be decked with cabanas and outdoor sun lounges.

The club says that members will not pay any additional fees to fund the upgrading, as the project will be fully funded by club reserves. It adds: “Historically, the club has never imposed a levy on members to raise funds.”

The other two buildings within the CSC are the Arrival Pavilion and the Sports Complex, which houses the Fun Pool water playground for children. As part of the upgrading project, the 20-year-old Fun Pool will see some improvements such as new swings, a trampoline, long water slides, water jet play areas and a water bucket for children.

“The upgrading is part of our Vision 2050 strategy to transform the club, which will be carried out in phases. We are confident that we will realise our vision of providing our members with a sanctuary, a home away from home, with myriad facilities and amenities to meet the needs of all age groups,” says Victor Chia, president of the CSC.

The approval to upgrade the Recreation Complex follows the club’s recent renewal of its Sport Complex lease in August 2023 for another 30 years. In addition, the club will celebrate its 119th anniversary in July.
