Unique architecture, spacious apartments and ample facilities are some of the attractions at The Interlace for the Tjiunardi family

In 2010, the Tjiunardi family of six — with three children aged 10 to 14 and a live-in maid — had outgrown their 1,200 sq ft, three-bedroom unit in an old private condominium.

The family wanted a brand-new condominium with spacious, well-designed units and a myriad of amenities that the whole family could enjoy. The project that stood out for them was undoubtedly The Interlace.

James Tjiunardi, a 44-year-old private investor, liked the development so much that he purchased a 3,477 sq ft, four-bedroom unit with a private roof terrace as the family’s primary residence in 2010. The following year, he purchased a 1,755 sq ft, three-bedroom unit for investment.

Resort Environment

The Interlace is nestled in the heart of Southern Ridges — a 10-kilometre green belt of scenic nature trails and treetop walks. The landscaped gardens and parks within The Interlace’s 8-hectare compound are inspired by the lush, natural surroundings. The 31 interconnected apartment blocks stacked in a hexagonal arrangement also allow the creation of cascading sky gardens, as well as private and public roof terraces for residents’ enjoyment.

“The way the blocks are laid out — with all the different gardens, parks and water features — makes us feel like we’re living in a five-star hotel resort instead of a typical condominium project,” says Tjiunardi’s wife, Christmin.

A Myriad of facilities

There are eight large individually landscaped courtyards to encourage social interaction among residents. A myriad of facilities are spread across the different courtyards that the entire family can enjoy.

The most popular among the children is the Water Park Courtyard, which features a plethora of pools — a 50-metre lap pool, a family pool and a children’s play pool. Meanwhile, the Central Square Courtyard houses a Billiard Room, Karaoke Rooms, Function Rooms, a Games Room, a Reading Room and Theatrettes. For outdoor fun, the Waterfall Terrace Courtyard features tennis courts and party pavilions for private pool parties.

Tjiunardi’s sons, Jonathan and Jethro, aged 10 and 11 respectively, are torn between the Jacuzzis at the Spa Valley Courtyard, the Play Zone and the Games Room. “We can’t decide which one we like best because we like so many of the facilities,” say the boys.

Their elder sister, 14-year-old Jovianne, says the Reading Room is her favourite place, “as it’s quiet and looks out to greenery”. It has become her sanctuary to read, study and do her school homework.

The 1-kilometre jogging track that encircles the entire compound of The Interlace is clearly Tjiunardi’s favourite facility. “It’s a well-designed track with fitness stations along the way,” he says. “I can get a very good workout every morning.”

Christmin, on the other hand, loves working out at the gym, which features the latest professional fitness equipment.

‘Social Network'

As a member of The Interlace social network formed by residents, Christmin also enjoys the cooking classes and festive celebrations held within the condominium. She also likes the fact that her children have made many friends within the condominium. “I don’t have to worry when they are playing with their friends at the Play Zone or the Water Park Courtyard,” she says.

Since moving into their four-bedroom apartment with a roof terrace two years ago, the Tjiunardis have hosted many birthday and barbeque parties. “Our apartment can fit 30 people comfortably,” says Tjiunardi. For bigger parties exceeding 30 guests, the family will book the party pavilion at the Waterfall Terrace Courtyard or one of the function rooms at the Central Square Courtyard.

Ideal Location

The location of The Interlace on Depot Road is also ideal for the Tjiunardi family. For Tjiunardi, it’s just a 15-minute drive to his workplace at Beach Road. On weekdays, he can even send his children to school, as his sons attend Henry Park Primary School on Holland Grove and his daughter attends St Margaret’s Secondary School along Farrer Road.

On weekends, the family usually goes to the VivoCity shopping mall or Alexandra Retail Centre. Instead of driving, they sometimes prefer to take the free shuttle service from The Interlace to the Harbourfront MRT station. Other malls in the Alexandra neighbourhood include IKEA, Anchor Point and Alexandra Central.

If they are not out at the shopping malls, the Tjiunardis will explore the green trails. They will follow the Alexandra Garden Trail, which is located just outside The Interlace. The trail links to the picturesque Henderson Waves bridge, which connects Telok Blangah Hill Park and Mount Mount Faber Park.

The Tjiunardis love The Interlace so much that they are encouraging their friends to move there too.
