SINGAPORE (Sept 6): A consortium comprising Heeton Holdings, Lian Beng Group, Ryobi Kiso Holdings and KSH Holdings has started the first phase of its new regeneration scheme at Bridge Street, Leeds, England, UK.

In a press release jointly issued by the four companies on Wednesday, the consortium says the scheme will create a “sustainable urban destination” on the 2.45-acre site, which is set in the city centre in close proximity to the Victoria Gate shopping centre and the emerging creative quarter.

The site was formerly occupied by British Gas prior to its relocation to Holbeck.

In the first phase of the redevelopment scheme, hotel chain Hampton by Hilton last year signed a deal for a new 14-storey, 192-bedroom hotel which is expected to open in 2019.

The second phase of the development would provide a significant number of new homes which is in response to strong demand for high-quality, centrally-located accommodation within Leeds.

“Leeds continues to grow at an impressive rate and the demand for new hotels and residential properties is high,” says Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council.

"I am confident that the scheme will help continue the regeneration to the northeastern area of the city centre, which has already started with developments such as Victoria Gate to the south. It will help provide an attractive link from the city centre to this rejuvenated part of the city,” she adds.
