For Alicia Yang, co-founder of the Galaxy Group with over 600 members, the essence of good leadership lies in how heads support their teams and build confidence. In the real estate industry, there is also a critical need to empower individuals — particularly women — to step forward and lead.
Yang describes her leadership style as grounded and hands-on. One core belief guides her approach: building people matters more than chasing short-term targets.
“I coach closely, create a safe space for learning and walk the journey with my team. When people grow in confidence and capability, results naturally follow. Sustainable growth always starts with people,” she elaborates.
The people in her circle include a capable group of division directors who manage the larger organisation and coach other members, freeing up some workload for Yang, whose days often stretch past 10pm. To be sure, there is no shortage of back-to-back meetings with agents and buyers, alongside project training sessions for her.
One of the most significant leadership principles that Yang has held dear is the importance of prompt action: no procrastination. “To build upon one’s dream, action should come first — confidence is built through action. Review and refinements can follow after the initial steps are taken,” she advocates.
“Early in my career, rather than passion, I was driven by a sense of responsibility that taught me discipline, resilience and empathy,” she shares. “Today, I focus on building people before building numbers.”

As for women in the business, she acknowledges both the challenges they face and the resilience with which they push on. The multifaceted roles that women, especially mothers, face from pregnancy to parenthood, while shouldering work responsibilities, speak to their tenacity.
By dedicating her time in the EmpowHer initiative, Yang hopes to lead women to show them their true potential. Through the platform, she hopes to help women feel seen and supported — not just to perform better — but to be confident of stepping forward into leadership, believing that they deserve growth and fulfilment.
“I support ERA’s EmpowHER because I feel that many capable women still underestimate themselves. With the many roles we juggle, it’s easy to put ourselves last,” she explains.
“There are a lot of things that women can do — they are better than what they think,” she highlights. “When women feel supported, they don’t just survive in this industry, they thrive.”

The culture within Galaxy group is one that fosters a supportive environment, where team members back each other up, creating a sense of camaraderie and endurance in the business. Such an environment is necessary so that realtors do not feel they are undertaking their entrepreneurial journey alone.
“As a female co-founder, I focus on developing leaders, not just pushing performance. Creating space for the community to grow, lead and stay, builds a stronger culture,” she says.
“When people feel safe to grow and trusted to lead, the organisation scales in a healthier and more sustainable way,” she concludes.
