The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is studying a possible extension of the planned Jurong Region Line (JRL) to connect to the Circle Line (CCL), with possible new stations to be built in the West Coast and Pasir Panjang area, announced Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew. Should the plan be found feasible, the extension could be completed by 2030. Besides improving rail connectivity between the western parts of Singapore and the city centre, this will also support future developments in the west, and enhance the overall resilience of the rail network.   

Mr Lui visited Clementi MRT Station yesterday to review completed upgrading works. After the two new sheltered pedestrian link bridges are opened, residents will enjoy improved access to Clementi MRT station. These bridges will connect commuters from both sides of the road to the extended station concourse. Commonwealth and Queenstown stations have also undergone similar upgrades.

More MRT stations will also be upgraded as part of the overall rejuvenation of our rail network, added Mr Lui. This includes making use of existing void space and adjusting the station furniture to create more platform space, as well as building new lifts and weatherproof facilities for enhanced accessibility. Details will be announced when finalised.
