Pantone's Colour of the Year 2017 is Greenery. If you want to update your interior in Singapore, here's how you can add a dash of green into your living space.

Late last year, Pantone announced Greenery as its Colour of the Year 2017.

“There’s a growing desire to reconnect with Nature and what is real, and find ways to disconnect from technology. We need a break. We need to stop and breathe,” Pantone Colour Institute’s vice president Laurie Pressman told Forbes.

And there’s no better place to recharge than in the sanctuary that’s your home. It makes sense, then, to add a dash of green to your living space. Green is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eye, in fact, sees more green than any other colour in the spectrum. So go ahead and infuse your home with the verdant hue; here are five ways how you can do so.

1. Clad your walls

Because of its soothing qualities, green works well as an all-over wall finish. For the most straightforward approach, paint your walls a solid green. If your aesthetic is more artsy-bohemian, consider Venetian plaster for a textured surface, or opt for a funky wallpaper like de Gournay’s Aruba Palms Eclectic. Or if luxe modernism is more your thing, try Studioart’s leather wallcoverings with geometric designs.

2. Anchor with a statement piece

Statement pieces are good if you want to introduce a trend without overpowering your living space. To recreate a Mad Men-style lounge, we recommend the Florence Knoll Relaxed Sofa, with button-back detailing and an emerald shade, redolent of the 1960s. For something a little quirkier, how about the Moooi Cloud Sofa, which has cartoonish proportions and comes in a jaunty lime zest fabric cover.

3. Use accent pieces to add interest

An accent piece – such as an armchair, side table, console or cabinet – works much like a statement piece, adding a focal point to the room without being overwhelming. Use an accent piece on its own, or in combination with a statement piece to amplify the effect. We love Poltrona Frau’s classic 1919 Armchair, clad in a very gentlemanly tone of forest green leather to withstand the test of time. BoConcept’s Osaka Armchair can be paired with the Osaka Sofa to create a matching suite. Meanwhile, Moooi’s jade-green Paper RAL Cabinet lends a dash of panache to your kitchen or dining space.

4. Use decorative elements

Decorative elements like cushions, throws and lamps are the easiest, most cost-effective way to update your interior, and also the most fun. French label Elitis has a beautiful selection of cushions in various shades of green; while M&S has a luxe, velvet textured version. Nordstrom’s olive green cable-knit throw makes us feel instantly cosy. In contrast, Kartell’s Cindy Lamp and Magis’s Puppy puts us in a playful frame of mind.

5. Bring a touch of nature indoors

Green walls and vertical gardens have been trending for some years now – just look at Jean Nouvel’s Le Nouvel Ardmore and Nouvel 18 or WOHA’s Newton Suites. More recently, homeowners have taken to installing green walls not only in their balconies and courtyards, but also within their own homes. For brightly-lit living areas, potted plants work just as well to green the space. Group an assortment of plants – varying the species, size and foliage density – to achieve a contemporary look.
