Homegrown co-living company Hmlet will launch two new co-living properties in Sydney, located in the Newtown and Marrickville suburbs, in the next few months. This marks its expansion into Australia, the company’s second overseas location outside Singapore. The company also plans to open new properties in Melbourne and Brisbane.
“With the growing demand for more flexible, community-based options of living in urban cities such as Sydney, Australia felt like the next natural move for us,” says Hmlet CEO and co-founder, Yoan Kamalski.
Hmlet @ Newtown (above) will be one of the first purpose-built co-living properties in Australia, and will accommodate 20 people. It will feature a co-working space, communal living, kitchen spaces, and a rooftop terrace. The property will also feature a new hospitality venue that will open later this year.
Hmlet @ Marrickville, which will house over 70 people, will be the cornerstone property for the company’s expansion into Sydney. It is the largest built-to-rent development in Sydney’s inner-west area, and was completed in January this year. The property spans 25,833 sq ft across six floors and includes a garden terrace and outdoor kitchens.
The co-living brand targets millennials, and offers flexible lease options and fully furnished spaces to its members. Hmlet has about 15 locations in Singapore and Hong Kong, and aims to have more than 2,400 beds under its management by year-end.
