Johnson Controls, the New York Stock Exchange-listed smart building solutions provider, has announced plans to expand its Singapore Innovation Centre, located at one-north. In a Jan 5 release, the company says it will invest up to $60 million in the Innovation Centre over the next five years. It will also expand its engineering teams to between 90 and 100 roles in the same timeframe.
The proposed expansion comes as a response to higher demand for sustainable data centre solutions as growing AI adoption in the region boosts hyperscale deployments and energy requirements.
The enhanced facility will focus on next-generation cooling, thermal management and intelligent automation technologies aimed at data centres. “The expansion of our Innovation Centre in Singapore is key in helping hyperscalers and colocation providers achieve their carbon reduction goals while ensuring performance and consistency at scale,” says Anu Rathninde, president for Asia Pacific at Johnson Controls.

According to research by PwC, Asia Pacific currently accounts for about 30% of data centre capacity globally, with capacity in the region set for expansion. In Singapore, research by real estate investment firm Digital Realty shows that national energy consumption by data centres is estimated to rise to 12% by 2030, up from 7% currently.
Johnson Controls opened its Singapore Innovation Centre in March 2024. Together with the company’s corporate offices, the centre is situated at Galaxis, a business park and office tower within one-north’s Fusionopolis.
