Like a pandemonium of parrots, drinking spots tend to cluster together in the deepest, darkest, and most delicious manner. Their allure is the collective vibe of wild freedom, excitement, and a place for you to rip your tie off and shake that bon bon without judgement. The buffet of drinking haunts may look overwhelming, but fear not, for we’ve sniffed our way down Lorong Mambong, Holland Village’s undisputed drinking ground for beer enthusiasts to uncover where the happiest hours of your life are waiting…for you.

1. Harry’s Holland Village

Standing tall on a spacious street corner right behind an even taller tree, Harry’s is hard to miss; its dark and intimate taproom beckons the thirsty traveller to slake any hunger for liquid moonshine. A large poster out front bellows ‘Good times, great vibes’ are now readily available during happy hour at $22++ for two beers, two wines, OR two spirits. They also have another special to celebrate the Cricket World Cup 2019: Five bottles of Bira 91 Blonde—official beer for the cup—at $49++. There are other happy hour deals, and your window of opportunity runs from 11.30am to 8pm, so climb in and make merry, all day long.

Address: 22 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277681

Opening hours: 11.30am to midnight from Sundays to Thursdays, 11.30am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays

2. Rumours Bar & Grill

The modest frontage seems unassuming, and the décor is dark and sexy in a slightly kitsch way, but its impressive deals list is a siren call for the parched wayfarer. Pick any two-hour slot between 8pm and midnight to imbibe all you want on cocktails, spirits, liquors, wines, beers, and shots...for $35++. If the high hits too hard or too soon, sober up a little with the mocktails and juices considerately included in this liquid buffet before you resume guzzling. There’s also a 5pm to 2am beer bucket deal going at $40++ for five bottles on Sundays to Tuesdays, and you can get a complimentary snack with any beer tower purchase.

Address: 24 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277683

Opening hours: 5pm to 1am from Mondays to Fridays, 11am to 2am on Saturdays, and 11am to 1am on Sundays

3. La Nonna

Call it peer influence, but even the innocent Italian restaurant doing its nonna thing has jumped on the happy hour bandwagon. Seeing as it’s mainly a place of hearty Mediterranean fare, the happy hour deals reflect the cuisine theme. Every day from 6pm to 8pm, you can get a $35 bottle of prosecco, $6 330 ml bottle of moretti beer, or both. The prosecco comes with complimentary Italian sausage, calamari, or bruschetta. This is a markedly tamer happy-hour spot compared to its neighbours, so you can try this place if you’re looking for a demure start while the night is young, and maybe, you know, go out on a bang later. Much, much later.

Address: 26 and 26B Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277685

Opening hours: 6pm to 10.30pm from Mondays to Thursdays and 6pm to 11pm on Fridays (these hours exclude the daily lunch run), 12pm to 11pm on Saturdays, and 12pm to 10.30pm on Sundays

4. Stärker Signature (Holland Village)

There are a number of Stärker spots dotted around the island, all very, very friendly to adults and ready to wash away the many woes of adulting—literally. Here you’ll find monthly promotions including beer o’clock (these happy hours are devoted to only beers), and a considerately holistic happy hour package. The Stärker folk have thoughtfully bundled beer and food together in their happy hour offerings, so you don’t have to drink on an empty stomach. Pick a two-litre and one snack happy hour pack for $63.90, or five litres and two snacks for $148. The snack selection is limited to either har cheong gai (six pieces) or mala waffle fries.

Address: 25 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277684

Opening hours: 3pm to 1am from Sundays to Thursdays, and 3pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays

5. SMÖÖbar (Holland Village)

This place brings to mind the trite saying, Blink and you’ll miss it. Reminiscent of platform nine and three-quarters in the Harry Potterbooks, shoehorned between the much larger Fatboys and Wala Wala, SMÖÖ’s door is unassuming. Still, it has some interesting drink promotions. Happy hour runs from 2pm to 8pm every day here, covering beer on tap, bottled beers, wine, cider, soju, and sake. They also have unique tower combinations, including soju and yakult (starting at $28 per jug to $68 for a three-litre tower) and orange or mango champagne towers at $68 for three litres. Remember to keep your eyes peeled for the little glass door next time you’re in the village.

Address: Level 2, 29A Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277687

Opening hours: 2pm to 1am every day

6. Wala Wala

Wala Wala is a true bastion of Holland Village’s nightlife, and its happy hour runs till 9pm daily. San Miguel is a patron saint living permanently on the premises, accompanied by his international mates Stella Artois, Asahi, and Kronenburg 1664 blanc. Spirit lovers can get buzzed from $7 per glass of bourbon, rum, vodka, and more, and the happy-hour deal extends to entire bottles, too. Champagne doesn’t seem to have a happy-hour special unless you’re dealing in bottles, but the reds and whites are up to 30% cheaper during magical hours.

Address: 31 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277689

Opening hours: 4pm to 1am from Mondays to Thursdays, 4pm to 2am on Fridays, 3pm to 2am on Saturdays, and 3pm to 1am on Sundays

7. Kanpai Izakaya & Bar

Kanpai means ‘dry cup’ in Japanese, and is the Japanese word for ‘cheers’. If you’ve been to a Chinese wedding, you’ll realise kanpai is simply the Japanese version of the Chinese ganbei. You don’t need to be of either nationality to appreciate happy hour here. This watering hole has high ceilings, a darkened interior, and closes at 9.30pm every day except Friday and public holiday eves (happy hour ends 9pm on those nights). Kanpai  features house pours, from Japanese whiskies and wines at $8++, to a pint of Asahi Super Dry for $16++and bucket of three 300ml sake bottles at $98++.

Address: 40 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277695

Opening hours: 5pm to 1am every day (these hours exclude the daily lunch run)

8. El Patio Mexican Restaurant & Wine Bar

The colourful décor here is a sharp departure from the dark and broody designs splashed across the other watering holes. Then again, El Patio isn’t a watering hole, per se, but a Mexican restaurant. Peer influence has persuaded it to get into the drinking game and toss up some Central American happiness. Beer, tequila, red and white sangria (woohoo!), and margaritas are all available on the happy hour menu, which runs from 3pm to 9pm daily. Get a tequila shot for $5++, a jug of margaritas for $39++, and a six-bottle beer bucket for $40++. Wine worshippers can also find their preferred poison on the list, starting at $70++ for a couple of Chilean wine bottles.

Address: 34 Lorong Mambong, Singapore 277691

Opening hours: 12pm to 11pm from Tuesdays to Sundays, 1pm to 11pm on Mondays
