Keppel, through its Infrastructure Division, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with JTC Corp to explore low-carbon energy infrastructure solutions on Jurong Island. In a Nov 24 release, Keppel says the collaboration will accelerate Jurong Island's transformation into a next-generation low-carbon energy and industrial ecosystem.
Under the MOU, Keppel and JTC will study and pilot district-level energy and thermal infrastructure, including exploring shared cooling, thermal storage and waste-heat utlisation. This will support the low-carbon data centre park earmarked for development on the island. JTC had announced last month that 20ha of land on Jurong Island would be set aside for the project, which will be Singapore's largest green data centre park, with a potential capacity of up to 700MW.
Keppel and JTC will also jointly explore smart microgrid testbeds, the development of an intelligent digital platform to coordinate energy systems across the island, and a unified, multi-energy energy-as-a-service model.

The MOU is one of several partnerships JTC has entered into in relation to low-carbon innovation and research on Jurong Island. Other collaborations include an MOU with the National University of Singapore to establish Sustainable Tropical Data Centre Testbed Phase 2; an MOU with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research and Surbana Jurong on a facility for testing emerging low-carbon technology; and a strategic collaboration with climate-tech startup accelerator Third Derivative to crowdsource clean energy solutions.
The inking of these partnerships coincides with Jurong Island’s 25th anniversary.
