Sean Chiao, who will retire as group chief executive officer and step down from the board of SJ Group.
In a release on June 26, urban and infrastructure consultancy firm Surbana Jurong Group (SJ Group) announced that Sean Chiao will retire as group CEO and step down from the board, effective July 31, 2026.
Chiao has helmed the group since April 2023, steering the group towards becoming a leading global architecture, engineering and construction player. He achieved this through the One SJ approach, which united its businesses and brands around a shared vision and culture framework.
He also strengthened the group’s senior leadership team by overseeing new internal and external appointments. Under his leadership, the group ranked 24th among Engineering News-Record’s Top 225 International Design Firms.

Chaly Mah, chairman of SJ Group, will step in as executive chairman in the interim to manage key operations, while the board commences the global search for Chiao’s successor to ensure a seamless transition.
