SINGAPORE (EDGEPROP) - Accor, the largest international hospitality group in Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, has signed a deal with Singapore's largest hotel operator, Worldwide Hotels Group, to open the biggest Mercure Hotel, the 989-key Mercure Icon Singapore City Centre, in 1Q2024.
The hotel is located at 8 Club Street on a former public carpark site, which Worldwide Hotels purchased in a government land sale tender in January 2019.
Worldwide Hotels was at the top of eight bids received and was purchased for $562.2 million or $2,148.5 psf per plot ratio. The breakeven cost at that time was estimated to be $800,000 per key.

Mercure Icon Singapore City Centre is positioned between the historic Chinatown and the CBD. The hotel is directly connected to two MRT stations, the Telok Ayer MRT Station on the Downtown Line and the Chinatown Station, an Interchange for the Northeast and Downtown Lines.
"Located in one of the most happening neighbourhoods in Singapore, and with a wealth of world-class exceptional experiences, the hotel demonstrates our shared commitment to providing genuine hospitality experiences," said Garth Simmons, COO for Accor's premium, midscale and economy division in Asia.
Mercure Icon Singapore City Centre has a wide range of dining options, an all-day dining restaurant, a lounge and bar concept, with tables equipped with power sockets for working. A landscaped pool deck and indoor gym are designed to rejuvenate the body and mind. The hotel will also feature car lots with EV chargers.
"We are thrilled to expand our working relationship with Accor, a strong partner," stated Worldwide Hotels Group CEO Carolyn Choo.
