Nearby, the Singapore Expo complex annually holds international concerts, exhibitions and conventions. Tampines is Singapore's third largest new town by area, spanning over 289ha of land. Originally covered by forests and swamps, Tampines has evolved into a modern township with three shopping malls: Tampines 1, Century Square and Tampines mall, located in the heart of the regional centre. In 2006, IKEA opened its second outlet in Singapore at Tampines Retail Park, adjacent to two other mega retail warehouse stores by Courts and Giant. From its early days as a kampung, Pasir Ris has evolved to become a lively housing estate surrounded by the beach and sea. Another natural landmark in the neighbourhood is Pasir Ris Park, which houses a 6ha mangrove forest. Pasir Ris is also popular for its chalets and resorts in Downtown East.

With a land area of 11,000ha, the East Region is the smallest and second most densely populated of the five regions in Singapore. The region is a key aviation hub, housing the Paya Lebar Air Base and Changi Naval Base. Major airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Scoot and Jetstar also has their head offices in the area. Other major economic activity includes manufacturing, with industrial estates in Bedok, Changi, Pasir Ris, Tampines and Paya Lebar. Changi Business Park also hosts a number of MNCs such as Standard Chartered and IBM. Going forward, the government has plans to create more semi-conductor and aviation-related jobs at Tampines North, Pasir Ris and Changi. Aside from the bustling economic activity, residents benefit from a wide variety of green and play spaces in the region. Residents will also enjoy increased connectivity to other parts of Singapore with the upcoming Cross Island Line and Thomson-East Coast Line.

"So happy to see my favourite burger brand 'Burgs ' is now opened at Kopitiam Tampines Mall.... As usual, the standard of the burger is maintained. There are several new choices on the menu waiting for my tasting. If u are a burger lover, do try it."

"Like the overall wide range of shop types to meet different needs. The addition of escalators for upper floors really help human traffic as well as circulation of patrons to those other shops. Big carpark capacity helps too. It may be more ideal to have standing areas to allow quick meals for those who buy from eatery stalls at basement."
