Bvlgari to operate first hotel in Japan from 2022

Hotel operator Bvlgari will be opening its first hotel in Tokyo at end-2022, in partnership with Mitsui Fudosan, a Japanese real estate company.

Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo will be fully integrated into a mixed-use development at Tokyo Station, in one of Japan’s busiest business districts. The hotel will offer 98 guest rooms, occupying the top seven floors (levels 39 to 45) of a skyscraper planned for construction in the Yaesu 2-Chome North District. This building is part of the redevelopment project approved by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in January 2018.

From the Tokyo Station, visitors can access art galleries, museums, and a Japanese landmark, the Tokyo Imperial Palace.

“In line with the Japanese government’s efforts to improve Tokyo’s competitiveness and position it as a global city, we have seen an increasing number of large scale redevelopments” including luxury hotels, says Tomohiko Sawayanagi, International Director, Head of Japan of JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group. JLL advised on the contract negotiation process on behalf of Mitsui Fudosan.

According to JLL, Tokyo saw an increase in international hotel guests of 15.1% Y-O-Y to 9.2 million, while domestic accommodation demand rose 2.8% Y-O-Y to 17.3 million. Sawayanagi expects Tokyo’s strong growth of visitors in 2017 to continue.

The Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo will be designed by Italian architecture firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, the same company that designs all Bvlgari Hotels and Resorts.
