SINGAPORE (EDGEPROP) - A semi-detached house at Jalan Suasa in Bukit Timah is going on the market for $5.9 million.
The house sits on a 3,522 sq ft plot and has a built-up area of 7,300 sq ft. The asking price translates to $1,675 psf on the land area.
The current owners – a Singapore professional athlete and his wife – purchased the house in 2002 and had it rebuilt to a three-and-a-half storey house from two storeys previously.
The new design, which was built to resemble an urban tropical abode with a resort-like feel, comes with an attic and roof terrace, which affords the occupants sweeping views of the greenery at the nearby Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
The property was also designed with an expansive living area, a swimming pool, as well as three master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, and two bedrooms, which comfortably accommodate the couple and their three children.
In addition, the house is located on elevated land, which gives it additional height.
The 999-year property is exclusively listed on EdgeProp Singapore’s property portal and is marketed solely by Lydia Low, division director at ERA Realty Network.
According to Low, the asking price of the house is very reasonable, as the owner spent some $2 million on the interior design and renovations. The house, she says, is in move-in condition.
The property, which is located near Cashew and Hillview MRT Stations on the Downtown Line, also enjoys close proximity to several parks including the Dairy Farm Nature Park. This means occupants will get to enjoy the breeze and the verdant surroundings, thanks to the abundance of forested areas nearby.
The property is conveniently located, as malls such as Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, Hillion Mall, Bukit Panjang Plaza and Rail Mall are nearby.
Families with school-going children will appreciate that the property is located within 1km of CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace, Bukit Panjang Primary School and the German European School Singapore (GESS).
What’s unique about the property, Low says, is its proximity to Good Class Bungalows (GCBs), which are mostly located in District 10.
This means that the environment won’t be as "cluttered”, with wider roads that allow for two to three cars to be parked outside, she says.
Veteran realtor
ERA’s Low is a veteran realtor with almost two decades of experience in the property industry, and is a team leader with 30 property agents working with her. She began her journey in the industry in 2002 when she decided to switch careers. Her previous role was as a project manager for architecture and interior design – a position she had held for over 10 years.
It did not take Low long for her career in property to take off.
“Based on my previous experience, I had an eye for the detail or design of the property. I thus had the confidence to know whether it was suited for my clients’ needs,” says Low.
Through the years, Low’s determination to make it as a realtor has paid off.
The clients she met through the years have continued to entrust her with their properties, and now count among her group of friends.
Furthermore, they have also recommended her services to their friends and family members.
“I would like to thank my clients for their trust, especially when they did not know me at first. That is something that has brought, and continues to bring me great encouragement,” she says.
In fact, Low says her business has grown in tandem with her clients’ portfolios.
When asked about her successful relationships with her clients, she attributes it to her honesty. “Most of them like the fact that I’m transparent with them during the transaction. I’m not afraid to be direct about my opinion that may prevent them from entering the deal. As such, they can tell I am heart-centred, working for their interests,” she says.
Low reveals that she lost a deal early this year, but she does not take the loss to heart.
“At the time, we had already submitted two offers for our client, but the purchase fell through. The client eventually ended up buying directly from the owner when he explored the neighbourhood. Following this, he actually called me to explain why I was not asked to conclude the deal, and that it was not his intention to bypass me,” she says.
Low says: “After that, we met for coffee, and he shared why he decided to return to Singapore after working for several years abroad. He also shared, during this session, his faith and breakthrough. His testimony of humility has encouraged me to live and walk in the same way. Nothing is mere coincidence to me.”
"With this client, he has continued to engage the lawyer whom I consulted for his purchase, and continues to trust me to sell his other property for him even after he has bought his new place,” she shares.
“My take on this is, we are all a part of this process, and we all receive our blessings in one way or another,” she adds. “Although achieving a monetary reward is very real, a testimonial of life story is something money can’t buy. My greatest satisfaction comes when my clients get to receive a good experience when it comes to searching for their dream home, or finding a buyer for their current place.”
The way she sees it, Low does not see her job as solely to buy and sell property for her clients.
“It is my passion to want to see through the entire transaction and other details [for my clients] and manage it to best fit their desires. That’s what keeps my business growing,” she says.
“To me, the closest metaphor is this: every single interaction with my clients is like a piece of art. Every single brushstroke that goes into it culminates in a beautiful, complete piece at the end of it,” she adds.
Low says: “When I first started this job, I did wonder if doing a job in sales was the right one for me. Today, I am a team leader with a team of 30 agents with me and still growing,” she adds.
In fact, she sees her role as one that helps clients grow and restructure their property portfolio – a role Low derives great satisfaction from.
Beyond buying and selling properties on their behalf, Low says she is also a good agent for landlords and trains her team to think in the same way.
